Ex-NHLer Hinote joins Blue Jackets staff

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -Former NHL veteran Dan Hinote (HIGH'-note) has been hired as an assistant coach by the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The club announced the hiring on Thursday. Hinote helped the Colorado Avalanche win the 2001 Stanley Cup.

Hinote will be the second member of new coach Scott Arniel's coaching staff, joining Brad Berry. The 33-year-old Hinote wrapped up his career last season with Modo in the Swedish Elite League. He spent nine seasons with the Avalanche and St. Louis Blues, scoring 38 goals with 52 assists in 503 games.Copyright © 2005 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
